Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha, Energetic Professor in the Field of Seismology

Young and energetic, perhaps that is the right word for one of the members of the Global Geophysics Scientific Group (KK). Why not, the skill of playing the round skin on the green field is proof. Apart from that, his ability to jog 5 km almost every morning is another proof of his body fitness. He is Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha, who in March 2020 received the academic position of Professor in the field of seismology at ITB.

For the Global Geophysics KK, this is a great gift and adds to the list of names of KK members who have the academic position of Professor, namely Prof. Awal Priyono, Prof. Nanang T. Puspito, Prof. Sri Widiyantoro, Prof. Satria Bijaksana and Prof. Andri Dian Nugraha. Achievement of the highest academic position for Prof. Andri Dian Nugraha has become a new spirit for the Global Geophysics Group to be more active and work for Indonesia’s progress in scientific development and geophysical applications.

Professor is the highest academic position for a lecturer. In terms of linguistic definition, a professor means someone who is known to the public and works as an expert in their field. Of course, the process of getting to a position as an expert is not instant. Many things have been done and many works have been produced and published as a form of scientific accountability.

For a lecturer, there are at least three things that are always attached to him, namely teaching, research and service. These three things became known as the tridharma of higher education, a place where a lecturer takes part and works. Implementing the tridharma of higher education properly is part of the professionalism of a lecturer. One of the things that measures the level of professionalism of a lecturer can be seen from the academic position he holds. And, Professor (Professor) is the highest academic position held by a lecturer. Like Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha, who in March 2020 received the mandate of the Academic Position of Professor (Professor) in the field of seismology or more precisely seismic tomography at a relatively young age (41 years).

Prof. Dr. Andri Dian Nugraha (ADN), a Geophysical Engineering lecturer who received a PhD from Kyoto University, Japan. Currently, Prof. ADN serves as President of the Association of Indonesian Geophysicists (HAGI) 2018-2020. Apart from that, structurally the ITB institution, Prof. ADN also serves as Director of Non-Regular Education under the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, ITB. Previously he served as Head of the Geophysical Engineering Study Program (S2/S3), and Head of the Geophysical Engineering Study Program (S1).

Based on SCOPUS data, an h-index of 11 was recorded with 107 scientific publication documents and a total of 413 citations. A research track record that has a high reputation. As a lecturer, Prof. ADN is also listed as a lecturer in Geodynamics, Microseismics, Seismic Tomography, Geodynamics and Seismotectonics, Geohazards and Volcano Physics courses as well as several other courses in the study program. Geophysical Engineering, Geothermal Engineering and in the Earth Science Study Program. Apart from that, Prof. ADN is also active in providing guidance for Final Assignments (S1), Theses (S2) and Dissertations (S3).

Various forms of work have been produced by Prof. ADN to develop geophysical science, especially seismology and seismic tomography. Achieving as a Professor is not the end of all works and stories.

An expression expressed by Dr. Agus Supangat in a WAG “Professor is not a status symbol or level in expertise, but Professor is a mentality, is a spirit, is a way of life, is a wisdom, and you get it, you have ready for all requirements.”

Always successful and healthy, Prof. ADN.
